Living With Acne Scars

While almost all of us must suffer acne outbreaks at certain phases in our lives, not all of us are able to escape those phases unmarked. Some of us leave with acne scars - perhaps through our own doing, or perhaps as a natural consequence. But no matter what, noticeable scars come at the expense of one's peace of mind. The emotional burden of having to live with scars is nothing to scoff at.

Acne scars can range from negligible to painfully visible. Removal of these scars would vary according to how deep the scars are, how much area of skin they take up, and how sensitive the skin is to different kinds of treatment. Modern medicine has come up with many different ways of dealing with pimple scars, so that a person who seeks to be rid of them need not worry about running out of options.

Surgery could be inexpensive, and the majority of surgical procedures done on pimple scars come at very low risk to one's health. But surgery is not the only option. Home remedies for acne scars exist, although as with any form of treatment, their efficiency varies from person to person.

Applying homemade solutions directly onto the scarred portions is said to be quite effective in helping scars fade. Cocoa butter could also serve as an ointment to relieve light scarring. The same could be said of lemon juice, a natural bleach. One could also use pastes that are made of different spices, such as ginger, turmeric and cinammon. The restorative properties of the spices assist in the skin's natural healing process. As with traditional medicines, it may take a few weeks before one can be certain if these remedies work or not. Patience is a necessary virtue when it comes to relieving oneself of pimple scars.

Makeup is also an alternative. Light scarring need not be troublesome, with a little patience and some creativity. Careful application of powder and cosmetic foundation could make light acne scars disappear, even up close! Be careful not to put on too much, though. Ideally, one should strike a healthy balance between concealment and decoration. Heavy bangs could also help cover up pockmarks on the forehead.
