Acne along the jaw line is equally troublesome to men and women for different reasons. It’s almost entirely preventable and can usually be banished by behavior modification.
In women and young girls in particular, acne at the jaw line can be caused and further aggravated by long hair brushing the skin. Since our hair is protected by natural oils along its length, these oils deposit themselves on the skin of the jaw as the air touches it and contaminate pores that already may have excessive oil. Hair also catches pollutants and debris that is naturally in the air and leaves these items on the skin. Pores that are already clogged with dead skin cells (sebum) fill up with this oil and debris, causing the infections we call acne.
Makeup is also a culprit in acne but particularly to that along the jaw line. Along with other dust and oil, makeup is deposited in the pores and encourages infections. On hot days or during exertion, makeup tends to cake and clogs the pores even more.
Men, adult and teen alike, also suffer from acne along the jaw line. Sports enthusiasts and those who go to fitness clubs regularly will notice that sweat runs down the line of the jaw, taking facial dirt and debris in the air with it, depositing the moisture and matter into the open pores. If those pores are already in any stage of being clogged, the sweat and dirt worsens the situation and acne develops. Some men and teens like to wear their hair long and that further aggravates the condition as it sweeps along the skin.
Acne along the jaw line can easily be prevented and treated. Keeping hair away from the jaw by either tying it back or cutting it will go a long way towards keeping that area acne-free. Water-based makeup will also help but no makeup at all is the best thing for your complexion. When exercising, control the flow of perspiration with headbands to keep it from infecting the pores along the line of the jaw and wash your face well after you’ve completed your workout.
With a little attention and judicious cleanliness, acne along the jaw line can be prevented and controlled.
